As part of the Risk Management team you'll help ensure Bankwest has the right processes in place to protect the business and our customers while making decisions that balance risk, return and growth. We partner with all areas of the business and provide operational and compliance risk advice and oversight, develop and implement credit strategy and credit analytics and implement Group risk frameworks within Bankwest.

About Risk Management

Risk Management’s core function is to provide advice, review and challenge to Bankwest in order to protect the business and our customers. We partner with all areas of the business to provide operational and compliance risk advice and oversight, develop and implement credit strategy/analytics and implement Group risk frameworks within Bankwest.

The environment we are operating in is challenging and fast paced, with technology advancements happening daily. Risk Management are responding to this by bolstering our IT/technology capability, in order to effectively support Bankwest.  

Our Graduate Program

Bankwest has the largest IT shop in Perth working on a wide variety of technology and projects. Risk Management plays an important role to ensure technology risk exposures are identified and provide guidance in managing these risks. As a Risk Management IT/Technology graduate, you will have exposure to the technology world, while building on your knowledge of risk processes and controls.

This two year structured program involves rotations in Operational & Compliance Risk. Here you will gain in-depth experience in risk and have direct contact with IT/technology stakeholders and projects, whilst developing your technical and relationship building capabilities.

Along with graduates on all four Bankwest graduate programs, you will participate in a one year foundational development program. This program is delivered through three conferences across the year, with a focus on developing the skills essential to building a successful career at Bankwest.

Where could the Program take you?

After completing the program, we could put your learnings to use within the Operational & Compliance Risk team as a:

  • IT/Technology Risk Portfolio Manager
  • IT/Technology Risk Specialist

You’ll also have the potential to progress through to leadership roles throughout your career at Bankwest.

We are seeking individuals with a passion for IT/technology and risk management, who are capable of applying logical, critical and creative thinking to a variety of problems while continuing to learn and develop themselves. You must have the desire to develop business acumen, challenge yourself and colleagues, meet new people and develop professional and customer relationships. Creative thinkers and innovators are highly regarded especially when you can leverage these skills to make things easier for our customers.

What degree types do we look for?

Graduates from all disciplines are welcome to apply, however, preferred degrees include:

Community activity: You’ll be actively encouraged to take part in community activities and to support local charities.


  • You will have Australian/New Zealand citizenship or permanent residency.
  • Minimum credit average: To be considered you’ll need a minimum of 65% grade point average.
  • Graduate applications: To be eligible, you should be in the final year of a university undergraduate or postgraduate degree or have completed your university studies in the last 12 months.
  • Postgraduate applications: We accept applications from undergraduate or postgraduate students.
